I loved it. It feels kind of cliché saying this, but I find it to be a beautiful feel, and I actually enjoyed the silly-style narration — kind of gave it an almost fairytale/storybook feel to it.
Unfortunately I saw the 2D version but even then it felt tense enough where it counted, although experiencing the "heist" portion of it makes me want to watch "Ant-Man" again, heh. It was just a fun experience for me from beginning to end, feeling very uplifting and upbeat all throughout and seeing the great risks one can take to achieve a dream… and the very end felt touching without being too heavy-handed.
Bleah, I shouldn't have waited so long to see it 'cause now I'm eager to see it again.
(I had also planned on watching "Crimson Peak" tonight, but they were being shown at two different theaters across town from each other and without a car I jogged/walked there as quickly as I may but was still too late. Ah, well, it appears to still be playing next week and I'm happy enough I got to see this film, "Pawn Sacrifice," and hoping for "Back to the Future" tomorrow.)

I spent the majority of the film confusing Edith's actress with Hillary Duff. XÞ Oops.
I enjoyed it for the most part. The atmosphere was beautifully haunting, and while I had no problem with any of the actors' performances there really wasn't a whole lot to keep my attention; then again, like Brad, I went to a late showing thinking "if I see it at night it'll make it spookier! Oooh!," so I was also a bit tired. I don't mind a slowly-plotted film, but I guess it was just a touch too slow for me.
It doesn't help that none of the jump scares did anything for me, but then it's also difficult to be startled when I expect that kind of thing coming (unlike, for an honest example, playing "Doom" and actively trying to avoid situations where something can sneak up on me).
Which reminds me, what was with all of the fade-to-black moments? I went through the film half-expecting commercials to pop up after each one! Was this movie pre-formatted for television?
On a lighter note I think there's only one swear throughout the whole film (which definitely made it stand out), and I embarrassingly admit I was a bit too distracted at all of the ladies wearing off-the-shoulder gowns. Heh.

The thing is though this film is almost like a remake of the first “Rocky†film, with Rocky basically playing Mickey… and yet I’m perfectly okay with that. I suppose it’s because I enjoy stories that involve torches being passed, one generation passing to another; I actually liken it to “Dragon Ball,†honestly, which starts with Goku as a kid who was trained in the martial arts by his grandfather and “ends†with him teaching martial arts to his granddaughter, Pan, coming full circle in-a-way.
So you have Adonis who’s trying to prove something to himself and at his side is Rocky, a guy who was once a great fighter but all of that is now far in the past. Heh. Great, now I suddenly want to see a prequel about Mickey. XÞ
(Though if I could change anything about this film I’d have brought back Mason “The Lion†Dixon as one of the commentators in the film’s final fight.)
